SBST HISTORY

SBST came to be through the vision and prayers of several Metro Manila pastors and church leaders.

On July 19, 1982 the Bible school officially opened its operation on the second floor of the International Baptist Church in Makati, Metro Manila. The Church has remained a faithful partner of the Bible school up to the present. Rev. Feliciano P. Montenegro who was then with Theological Education by Extension of the Philippine Baptist Mission (now International Mission Board) was asked by the Board of trustees of SBST to initiate the opening of the school.

The founding members of the school were: Rev. Ben Calica, Rev. Henry Cabalang, Mrs. Rosie Santos Rico, Rev. Rene London, Rev. Michael Mendoza, and Rev. Larry Macasero. These leaders saw the need for relevancy and contextual approach to training their leaders. With the encouragement coming from Filipino constituency, some American missionary friends, they accepted the challenge to plan for theological education program that is receptive to the needs of churches in Metro Manila.

The first faculty members to teach during the historic opening day of the school were the following: Rev. Feliciano Montenegro, Mrs. Herminia Montenegro, Rev. James Slack, Rev. Bob Compher, Dr. Charles Brock, Mrs. Rosie Santos Rico, Mrs. Flores Chen Co, and Rev. Willim Gopffarth. The total enrollment for that semester was 67.

In March 1985, Rev. George de Castro became its first graduate.

In June of 1987, the Board of Trustees of the schoolinvited Dr. Henry Silbor to become its first president; then in 1992 Rev. Ed Villegas became the 2nd president; then this 2016, atty. Lhyl Rondario become its 3rd president. The graduates of SBST serves in key leadership positions in churches and SBC association in the Philippines and beyond.
